The Nutrient Gap is one of the latest businesses to join the Wellingborough and East Northamptonshire Chamber of Commerce. The brand helps food and drink companies to be compliant with the complex world of food and drink legislation.

Georgina Stewart, founder of The Nutrient Gap and a qualified Nutritional Advisor, recognises that the cost of getting good advice was prohibitive to many small food businesses creating great products for the retail sector and that the legislative burden grows bigger every year.

She explained: “I created The Nutrient Gap to fill the knowledge gap that threatens such businesses. Working for yourself can be lonely and knowing there is support out there in terms of personal development, training and networking is what I need.”

The brand offers services such as nutritional profiles, advice on allergens in food, ingredient lists, pack copy checks and health claims, label compliance checks and general NPD consultancy and advice.

Speaking about the role of the company, Georgina said: “I let the companies do the creative side of food and drink development whilst I keep them legally compliant and their customers and consumers safe.

“I’m meticulous in my attention to detail, knowing that one missed allergen or one ingredient left off a list (or incorrectly named) could put a consumer at risk of a health crisis or worse.”

She added: “I keep my knowledge of food law up to date through attending training, conferences and webinars and I aim to be always on the ball for whatever legislation is coming around the corner.

“I stand up for the unknown consumer who might suffer if I don’t make the manufacturer disclose exactly what’s in their product or leave essential information off of their pack.”

The move to join the Wellingborough and East Northamptonshire Chamber of Commerce will further help the brand to network and expand its scope of business.

Georgina said: “My main focus is on challenger brands and SMEs, working on legislation and regulatory advice, label checks, advertising advice & health claims along with HFSS projects (High Fat, Salt and Sugar Legislation), profiling their products to meet the regulations before the deadline.

“By joining the Chamber, I hope that once I start to network and people start to know me, my services can be explored by these brands as they feel confident to work with me and I can provide them with support as and when they need it.”
