Food for Thought, a zero-waste shop in Wellingborough, has an update for its followers and customers after revealing that it is facing closure.
Kerry, from the sustainable shop, shared a message with its social media followers explaining its recent dilemma – that the shop based in Nene Court, Wellingborough, is “financially and energetically facing closing”.
“If you’re familiar with Food for Thought, you’ll be able to imagine how painful this is. The accompanying sick feeling and knotted feeling in my stomach have been delightful,” said Kerry.
The business could carry on as usual until September and hope that this makes a difference so that it can move forward with investment offers and develop its services. The other option is accepting its landlord’s offer of ending its contract, giving notice in September and closing in October.
The main focus of the business is the first option and to hope that the situation improves.
Food for Thought would not be where it is without the support from its customers and followers, and it needs their help to “get the word out”.
Kerry added: “I know that we still need this community. Reducing plastic is only the start. In a time where there’s so much to be fearful of, it’s wonderful and absolutely imperative that we safeguard the things that bring us joy, community, belonging, empowerment and all the other beautiful things we achieve by being part of Food for Thought.
“Tell your loved ones, your not so loved ones, your colleagues, the hippies, the punks, the pop lovers, the busy business people, the children, the family peeps, meat eaters, vegans, people who dabble in both camps depending on their moods, your mummy friends, your daddy friends, your single friends, your neighbours, Karen at work, Sue next door and Paddy over the road.”
People are encouraged to spread the word about the sustainable business, its products and its predicament. Kerry highlighted the events Food for Thought has coming up, including online workshops about the environment and wellbeing, and the trialling of a click and collect delivery service.
The zero-waste shop offers environmentally friendly food, cleaning, personal hygiene and home products, alongside “banter, hugs, soap boxes upon which to stand, and the coolest customers in the actual whole world”.
