The Department for International Trade will be hosting ‘Women in Business – Trading Across the Commonwealth Conference’ as part of this year’s Commonwealth Games Business and Tourism Programme.

The conference aims to champion, celebrate, connect, and empower Women in the Commonwealth featuring inspirational talks from successful female entrepreneurs and government officials.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Baroness Ruby McGregor-Smith CBE– Chair of The Institute of Apprenticeships and Technical Education, former chief executive of Mitre group, and former chair of the Women’s Business Council, who has held a place in the House of Lords since 2015.
  • Chika Russell – Founder of Chika’s, who will host a session on her company’s journey to international growth.
  • Clare James MBE – Managing Director of East Midlands Airport who was awarded an MBE in 2007 for services to the Royal Air Force after a distinguished career serving her country.

A range of business-led topical panel discussions will also take place surrounding challenges and opportunities of international trade. These will provide attendees with the tools and support to increase their exports.

The free event will take place on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, from 9am to 3:30pm. Attendees are invited to join virtually, or in person at Austin Court in central Birmingham.

The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games will be the largest sporting and cultural event taking place in the UK for a decade.
