Four pay-as-you-go points will be fitted at the Wellingborough railway station car park to offer electric vehicle (EV) charging to visitors.
The charging points will be introduced in early 2022 near the station entrance to kick off EMR’s strategy to place EV charging points across stations in its network.
EVs will charge by up to 80 per cent in half an hour due to the fast-acting system and drivers will only be charged for the electricity which they use. Users will pay-as-you-go rather than by subscription.
Transitions and projects director at East Midlands Railway, Lisa Angus, explained: “More than ever before, people want the option to make more sustainable choices about how they travel.”
She continued: “This investment in charging points, combined with our EMR Connect service, will enable our customers to be able to make a journey completely powered by electricity, helping to make a positive contribution to reduce emissions and cut their carbon footprint.”
The aim is to help EV drivers visiting the station complete their journey on electric energy only. This will contribute to lower air pollution and lower noise pollution for people living or working close by.
