Work to complete Wellingborough’s HMP Five Wells has entered the final stage with just 25 per cent left to complete.

The focus now is of course to complete the build, as well as testing to ensure that all individual buildings and site wide systems communicate with each other and work in an integrated manner. External works and landscaping are progressing well the internal road network is substantially complete, meaning you can now see more easily what the site will look like when complete.

Offsite, enabling works for the demolition of the old social club within Millers Park has commenced and following demolition works the site will be returned to open space. Works on Doddington Road were due to commence mid June where a new road layout will introduce traffic calming measures including a new traffic light controlled junction and entrance to HMP Five Wells. These works are planned to take approximately six months and due to complete (November/December). The new road layout also includes minor road works at the junction of Turnell Mills Lane and Doddington Road, these works were due to commence mid to late June for a period of approximately two months.

A spokesman for HM Prison and Probation Service said: “As we move to completion, on occasion it is necessary to carry out important testing works after the normal working day. Within our extended permitted hours there will be an additional presence on site to carry out these activities, we will ensure these activities are carried out with consideration to our close neighbours.”
