Residents of North Northamptonshire are being asked to ensure they follow current COVID restrictions and rules when heading to polling stations to vote next week.
Anyone voting in person is being asked to bring their own pen or pencil to vote with, maintain social distancing, wear a face covering and follow one-way systems in place.
To further help in-person voters and put everyone at ease, a video has been put together showing what they can expect when visiting polling stations on Thursday 6 May and is available to watch on North Northamptonshire Council’s YouTube channel and social media pages. The video includes information on what procedures have been put in place to keep everyone safe and how polling stations will be kept clean throughout the day.
Returning officer for the North Northamptonshire election, Rob Bridge, said: “Given the pandemic, this election will be unlike any that we have seen before, but our Election teams have been working hard to ensure that polling stations and voting is as safe as possible.
“I know that some residents may be still unsure and worried about safety, but I urge you to cast your vote and have your democratic say in what is a crucial election for the people of North Northamptonshire.”
If you test positive for COVID or experience symptoms in the days leading up to the election, you should not vote in person, but can still apply for an emergency proxy vote up until 5pm on polling day by contacting your local elections office.
Emergency proxy forms must be sent to your local elections office and cannot be taken into a polling station.
