Work continues on the completion of a nationally significant project on the bank of the River Nene at Irchester, near Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. The new team at The Chester House Estate, a site of national historical importance, has started the final phases of construction which will introduce a range of facilities for the local community, as well as attracting visitors from far and wide. We are really excited here at Rushden Lakes for this project to come to life, bringing even more attractions to our community!

“The vison for The Chester House Estate is to connect the people of Northamptonshire to their 10,000- year story. With a pioneering educational programme and a free to enter estate for everyone, the team have the community at the heart of all that they do. The Chester House estate are determined to be financially sustainable whilst establishing, promoting and growing local produce, business and tourism. Whilst still preserving the Northamptonshire Archaeological Archives and the rich history of the site.

The aim of the project is to open up the site for learning, community participation and wider leisure use. Chester House Estate will be partnering up with local educational organisations such as the University of Leicester as well as with Moulton College to provide agricultural education, including involvement in our Stewardship scheme and long-term land management and livestock grazing plan. Chester House Estate will deliver a large educational programme for KS1-5 covering archaeology and geography.

Following site completion (expected late 2021), Chester House Estate will play a huge part in the role of COVID-19 economic recovery for the local area by promoting local businesses through our artisan courtyard and local producers through our community farm shop and café. Chester House Estate will also generate up to seven full time roles and up to 50 seasonal/casual working contracts.”
