Security services company G4S is recruiting people for various roles at Wellingborough’s HMP Five Wells.

People looking for an exciting and challenging career within the Prison Service, have the opportunity to join the team at the new mega prison, which has so far:

  • Employed 34 apprentices for the project to date
  • Upskilled over 632 people
  • Achieved 37% local employment
  • Created 207 new jobs in construction
  • Completed 1,755 work placement days

Various roles will be available such as office administration staff, chaplaincy, education and of course, prison officers. Roles like these are integral to protecting the public and play a vital part in helping offenders turn their lives around.

The project continues to win awards, most recentlywinning three awards at the “Constructing Excellence National Finals” (Offsite Project; Client of the Year(Ministry of Justice); and Digital Construction).

A spokesman for G4S said: “In addition to the construction progress made during 2020, we have had great success with providing job and training opportunities and we will continue to build upon the number of apprenticeships, local employment and work placement days being offered to the local and wider community.

“As of January 2021, 37 per cent of our workforce live within a 25-mile radius of the project which exceeds our target of 25 per cent. We are now looking ahead to a period where the focus is on project completion towards the end of 2021.”

The final phase of work will focus on completing all the landscaping, finishing the construction work, and lots of activities on the inside of the buildings to fit the prison out.

G4S have been appointed as the Operator of the new prison and they are working closely with the Ministry of Justice to ensure an efficient and effective handover.
