Business professionals across East Northamptonshire and Wellingborough are required to “lift the lid” on the innovative work going on behind the scenes at county firms in a bid to inspire the next generation of employees.

Supported by the Wellingborough & East Northants Chamber of Commerce, together the South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP) and Enterprising East Northants, working on behalf of East Northamptonshire Council (ENC) and the Borough Council of Wellingborough (BCW),are looking to inspire young people by giving them insight into the often unknown world of Northamptonshire business.

James Tennant Business Account Manager for East Northamptonshire Council said: “Right now young people are apprehensive about the future, as a business leader you can make a difference.

“We want inspiring business leaders to engage with local schools in Wellingborough to establish a fruitful dialogue and help to inspire young people by lifting the lid on all the great things happening on their doorstep.”

Local business professionals in East Northamptonshire and Wellingborough are being recruited to volunteer as Enterprise Advisers. The programme connects business leaders and schools together to provide students with relevant, first-hand information and insight into the world of work.

James added: “We want to hear from aspirational companies with the right attitude. This could be a sole trader who has the right mind-set, is hard-working who has the vision to be able to inspire young people.”

As well as Enterprise Advisors business leaders are being sought to volunteer for Inspired 4 Enterprise, an Enterprising East Northants Campaign which has been launched to showcase examples of innovation and enterprise locally through the demonstration of best practice.

James added: “Northamptonshire is an exciting county for business. It has world class industry going on and young people have no idea. We want to lift the lid on those examples and celebrate the innovation that is going on by encouraging members of staff to engage with young people.”

Volunteers will be asked to speak or prepare slides to deliver information virtually to eight to 12 young people of Sixth Form age. They will be given the opportunity to share details of the ground breaking work happening within their business to help encourage young people to stay local and work local and take up job opportunities at the firms they are in touch with.

James added: “Those that come forward  will need to engage virtually in a short time conscious call to showcase what they are doing. This could be a covid response, an existing programme or service or something under development, anything they have going on to inspire young people.”

President of the Chamber of Commerce and Director of Prop-Search, commercial property specialists Simon Toseland said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for business people in Northamptonshire to showcase their skills and lend their support to this fantastic scheme designed to inspire local young people into fulfilling careers here in Northamptonshire.”
