A petition has been launched to reinstate the closed access road to the Leyland Trading Estate.
Businesses say the closure of a stretch of Irthlingborough Road, which started in October, is costing them thousands of pounds.
In response, the President of the Wellingborough Chamber of Commerce Simon Toseland has said compensation should be explored for those businesses affected by the closure of Irthlingborough Road and the demolition of the bridge over the railway line.
Now more than 1,400 have been added to an online petition called ‘ROAR – Reinstate Our Access Road – B571 Leyland Estate, Irthlingborough Rd, Wellingborough’.
Set up on the Change.org website, it states: “This has a massive impact on the local community and businesses. Workers are being made redundant and companies may not survive. There is no passing trade. The alternative proposed route is not due to be completed for at least 2-3 years.
“The concept of a temporary Bailey Bridge has been abandoned by Network Rail leaving the Leyland Trading Estate equally abandoned. We need your support for the 1000 plus people employed on the Estate and ensure un-restricted traffic flows.”
