The President of the Wellingborough Chamber of Commerce is imploring that the potential for compensation is explored for those businesses affected by the closure of Irthlingborough Road and the demolition of the bridge over the railway line.
Simon Toseland is inviting businesses on the town’s Leyland Industrial estate to get in touch with the Chamber detailing how their business has been affected.
He said: “Whilst it’s clear that there was some confusion over the timing for the new bridge to open, the most pressing issue is obviously what can be done now to address the impact of these works’’.
“The decision on the timeline between closure of the existing bridge and opening of the new bridge seems to have ignored the impact on businesses based on the Leyland Estate. I’m sure there are reasons for this, probably costs played a part but, if this timeline was the most cost effective then more consideration and communication should have been employed with local businesses. We are working to arrange a meeting between the agencies involved to explore the options available – and the potential for compensation’’.
“We need to hear from all those affected so that we can address this issue collectively, not just individually’’.
The estate is managed by Birmingham-based property management company Whittle Jones, who said they were also chasing an overdue update from Network Rail.
