Wellingborough Council has approved plans to transform former Sheep Street Chinese restaurant Chi Chi’s into the town’s latest bar.

Rob Hart, owner of Hart Family Brewers and president of Wellingborough Chamber of Commerce, who already owns a brewery at The Embankment, Wellingborough, applied to Wellingborough Council to change the use of the former Chinese restaurant to a drinking establishment.

A report about the plans states: “The application involves a change of use from a restaurant to a drinking establishment with no operational building works mentioned.

“The applicant has specified opening hours of 11:00 to 23:00 every day, and the business would employ two full-time and three part-time staff.”

The thatched roof building, owned by Wellingborough Council, is Grade 2 listed and was originally built as two houses.

Councillors approved the plans subject to a number of conditions.
