Wellingborough will be filled with joy and cheer when the Christmas lights get turned on later this month.

Special guest Santa Claus is coming to town on Saturday, November 26 to help spread the magic of Christmas.

The famous man in red will mark the start of the festive fun from 1.00pm in Sheep Street.

Visitors will have the opportunity to be pictured in a giant snow globe as part of a range of activities before the stage show begins at 4pm when local dance groups and singers will perform before a one- hour Magic of Christmas show ahead of the big switch-on at 6.00pm.

The festivities are being organised by the Wellingborough Business Improvement District (BID), which is paid for by businesses, through its Discover Wellingborough campaign, which stages events and activities aimed at encouraging people into the town centre.

John Cable, BID manager, said: “We are huge fans of Christmas in the BID office, but for us, the festive period really starts when the lights are turned on. Seeing the faces of the children when the town lights up is something we always treasure, which is why we hold this event every year.

“No matter how old you are, Christmas can be enjoyed by everyone, which is why we try to find entertainment and activities for all the family.

“Every year, our aim is to keep Christmas magical for all those who come to our party and to kick-start the festive period for local businesses, who welcome the trade that the light-switch on event always generates.
