Former president David Cross (left), with new president Rob Hart (right)The new president of the Wellingborough Chamber of Commerce has launched an awards event to help promote “excellent” businesses within the borough.

Rob Hart, who was promoted to president at the Chamber’s AGM held last night, Tuesday, April 19, has developed the idea to ensure the growth of the trusted organisation.

Entries for the inaugural awards opened last week, with businesses from across the borough being invited to submit their applications to one of four categories.

Entrants don’t need to be members of the Chamber, but their business must be situated in the borough, or show a ‘significant commercial interest’ in the area.

Rob said: “I’m delighted to announce that this year the chamber is inaugurating the Wellingborough Business Awards which will recognise and publicise excellence in business from within the town and borough.

“In order to increase influence and ensure a vibrant and growing membership, we need to continue to engage with the local community.

“The Chamber is a trusted voice in the town, independent and politically neutral and as such is leading and contributing to discussions on a wide range of topics.

“Over the last year we have worked closely with Orange Juice Communications to improve our digital presence, and I look forward to consolidating and developing this further.”

The categories for the first awards night are: Retail Business of the Year, Services Business of the Year, Manufacturing Business of the Year, Green Business of the Year.

Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in the town on Friday, October 14 that will include presentations from key note speakers.

The closing date for entries is Friday, June 24.
