A new cyber security event is being hosted in order to mark the launch of a non-profit organisation aimed at providing a support network for local businesses.

The event, organised by the Northamptonshire Business Resilience Forum (NNBRF) and hosted by SilverDisc, will provide information for small businesses as to how they can protect their companies from cyber crime, hacking and telecommunications fraud.

Held at the Northants County Cricket Ground on Monday, March 21 between 8.30am and 4.30pm, the event has a wide range of speakers already confirmed, including the assistant director for cyber security at the Department of Culture Media & Sport as well as organisations including the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI) and the East Midlands Police Cyber Crime Unit.

A statement on the NNBRF website said: “Cyber crime is a particular worry for legal firms and accounting firms due to the highly sensitive nature of the data they work with. But even for every other professional firm out there, cyber crime can be devastating and can sting you in so many ways – through fraud, hacking, telecommunications fraud and data theft.

“It’s a great opportunity to make sure that you stay secure and don’t end up in legal battles or with huge fines because your security was lacking when someone decided to hack in and steal confidential information.

“Whilst you might be confident that you are doing everything needed to prevent cyber crime, there is evidence to say that most data breaches and cyber crimes are down to poor information security. It shows that there is a big difference between thinking you’re protected and knowing that you’re protected based on professional advice.”

Membership to the NNBRF costs nothing, and the organisation aims to offer a range of activities, including events, exercises and networking opportunities to their members.

Tickets for the event cost £94.75 and can be purchased via their website. More information can be found here.
