Starbucks and Subway will be opening stores as part of a new retail park being built in Wellingborough.

The new development in London Road by regeneration specialist St. Modwen will open later this year and will also include a McDonalds Drive Thru restaurant as well as the town’s first Lidl supermarket.

The retail park sits on one of the main roads approaching the town centre, opposite the existing Castlefields Retail Park, which includes B&Q and Pizza Hut.

Formerly used by Whitworth Bakery and then Knapp Tools, the site had been derelict for a number of years before it was eventually bought by St. Modwen. The new signings mean that there is only one retail unit left to let.

Gary Morris, senior development manager at St. Modwen, told the Northants Telegraph: “Starbucks and Subway will offer yet more variety to the food offer in the area, while HSL will complement the existing homeware stores nearby.”

Simon Toseland, director at Prop Search which is acting for St. Modwen, also told the Northants Telegraph: “We’re delighted to be able to confirm that the scheme is virtually fully let, ahead of completion of the development, with only one unit still available.”

Opening dates have not yet been confirmed for the new stores, although it is hoped that the first stores will start opening their doors by early November.
