Budding bakers will “knead” to know the forthcoming dates for Wellingborough’s very own version of the Great British Bake Off if they want to enter.
The contest, inspired by the hit BBC series, will take place on Saturday, October 10, from 10am – 4pm.
This is the third consecutive year that this event has been organised by the town’s Business Improvement District (BID) to find the “cream of the crop” in bakers. It has proved extremely popular with a large increase in the number of entries year on year!
Bakers will need to submit their entry forms by Saturday, October 3. Forms will be available in Rowlatts on Silver Street and Sweetbitz on Cambridge Street and also on the Discover Wellingborough website.
‘Hugely talented’
There will be five categories this year: 12 identical cupcakes/fairy cakes/muffins, children’s bakes, Halloween themed cake, tray cake and gluten free cake. There are a limited number of entries in each category on a first come, first served basis. So get yours in quick and remember, “muffin ventured muffin gained!”
Once the cake conquerors have been crowned winners and received their prizes, the cakes will then be sold off and the proceeds will be donated to the Wellingborough Rotary Club.[pullquote]Now it’s time for the bakers of Wellingborough to show us what they can do[/pullquote]
John Cable, Manager of the Wellingborough BID, which stages events to promote the town centre, said: “Any Great British Bake Off fan will know that the contestants are hugely talented and week after week come up with some truly wonderful creations.
“Now it’s time for the bakers of Wellingborough to show us what they can do. But judging by last year, we are sure that the competition is “scone” to get tough.”
“The contest will help promote the independent cake shops and bakeries we have in the town, which we believe are definitely worth a visit.”
Judges will be looking for an even bake, excellent presentation, imaginative flavour combinations and no ‘soggy bottoms’.
