beach-1Shoppers in Wellingborough will have the chance to experience the seaside in their town centre next month.

A four-week long bucket and spade extravaganza will take place in Market Street starting on Saturday, August 8, and running until Saturday, August 29.

Despite being more than 70 miles away from the closest beach, shoppers in the town will have access to a 130-square metre beach from between 10am and 4pm everyday. Deckchairs and sand as well as sounds of the sea will help to capture the ‘by the sea’ experience.

It has been organised by the Wellingborough Business Improvement District (BID), which is paid for by businesses and works to promote the town centre through the Discover Wellingborough campaign.

John Cable, BID manager, said: “We can’t take Wellingborough to the beach, so we’ve brought the beach to Wellingborough.

“We are proud of our town centre and believe it has lots to offer, with free park and a wide selection of independent shops. The beach is another way to encourage people into the town centre and either, remind them of what they have on their doorstep, or introduce them to our great town centre.

“So come on down to the beach and get into the holiday spirit, enjoy basking in the sun in deckchairs while listening to the sounds of the sea as the children make sand castles.”
