Medieval knights, archers and musicians are set to invade Wellingborough this weekend, with the town centre being whisked back in time for a dose of family fun.
More than 80 activities have been lined up for the third annual Wellingborough Medieval Festival, which takes place on June 27 and 28.
The entertainment scheduled includes falconry demonstrations, ‘shoot the knight’, a talk by a barber surgeon as well as archery and a battle royal between two knights.
It is being organised by the Wellingborough Business Improvement District (BID), which is paid for by businesses and works to promote the town centre through the Discover Wellingborough campaign.
BID manager John Cable said: “History will be brought to life during the Medieval Festival as we aim to turn Wellingborough into a major destination for the weekend.
“The Medieval Festival is now a firmly-established part of Wellingborough’s calendar, where we get to showcase our great town centre with its independent shops, green spaces and historic buildings while staging a family event.
“This our third year and we’re excited to unveil the biggest and strongest line up to date. There are activities for all the family starting Saturday at 10am through to its climatic close at 4pm on Sunday.”
This year it will be focussed on the 600th Anniversary of the Battle of Agincourt. There will be archers, musicians and falconry demonstrations alongside ‘shoot the knight’, a talk by a barber surgeon as well as archery and a battle royal between two knights.
There will also be medieval market stalls, cooking and weapon displays, dance classes and candle making, while a peasant’s dead cart will patron the streets and ferrets will be taking part in races.
The free event will take place throughout the town centre and in Croyland Park, Croyland Gardens, Tithe Barn Lawns, Churchyard and All Hallows Church.
