Construction work at Stanton Cross is now underway as preparation work for the extension of Midland Road past Wellingborough Station and across the railway and River Ise has begun.
Next week, contractors will continue work on a major Japanese knotweed eradication programme, meaning that the footway from Mill Road to the station will close from midnight on the 9th June onwards. Those wishing to access the station can continue to use the Midland Road entrance.
Wellingborough Station users should also be aware that from the 25th June the Northern car park will also close to enable works. Commuters will be able to continue to use both the Western Car Parks and the Southern Car Park where there is adequate provision for car parking, meaning there will be no net loss of car parking spaces whilst work is going on.
Head of Stations for East Midlands Trains, Andy Moore said: “We are pleased to be playing our part in the multi million pound development at Stanton Cross, which will deliver major improvements for customers using Wellingborough station. We will continue to work closely with all our partners to ensure our passengers are kept informed as this exciting development progresses.”

Steve Hughes, Network Rail Area Director, said: “We are very pleased to play a key part in this exciting development. Once complete Stanton Cross will be home to a new community living next to a world class railway offering easy access to London and the north.”
Councillor Paul Bell, Leader of the Borough Council of Wellingborough, said: “I’m delighted that work’s starting and that residents will see this development finally begin. It’s been a long time coming. We’ve always said that Stanton Cross was about infrastructure first, and this road and bridge will open up the whole site. It’s a very exciting time for Wellingborough.”
Stanton Cross, a major residential led development set to deliver 3,200 homes, 7,500 new jobs, an enhanced station, a country park, schools, a doctor’s surgery and shopping facilities for Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. Located to the east of Wellingborough Station, the development will be the largest growth the town has seen since the 1960s.
