Following the upgrade to the A45 Wilby Way roundabout the next traffic bottle neck on the A45 (Chowns Mill) at Higham Ferrers and Irthlingborough is to be completely redesigned and improved with government funding.

The junction works are programmed to start in late 2020 with completion in late 2021. Survey and design work needs to be undertaken before works start however it appears there is a considerable time to wait for any transformation.

However, Wellingborough businesses will no doubt welcome the improved traffic flow and reduction in congestion at this junction. It will also come ahead of the proposed development of Rushden East which could accommodate up to 2500 new homes.

The roundabout will be traffic light controlled like Wilby Way and improvements will also be made to the Skew Bridge junction at Rushden prior to this when works start on the Rushden Lakes retail park development.

Ultimately it is hoped that the dualling of the A45 between Stanwick and Thrapston will be given the green light by Government. At the present time the scheme is being considered in terms of its feasibility however it is some way off from being confirmed as a priority and a funded road scheme within the government’s programme.
