Work has officially started at Stanton Cross, a major residential led development set to deliver 3,200 homes, 7,500 new jobs, an enhanced station, a country park, schools, a doctor’s surgery and shopping facilities for Wellingborough.
Located to the east of Wellingborough Station, the development will be the largest growth the town has seen since the 1960s.
Bovis Homes’ Regional Director, John Lougher, Borough Council of Wellingborough Leader, Councillor Paul Bell, Peter Bone MP and representatives from project partners were at Wellingborough Station this morning for the official ground breaking ceremony.
Work will now begin on the vital infrastructure to kick-start the scheme including two new roads and two new bridges across the Midland Mainline and the River Ise. Construction of the first housing areas will follow in 2016.
When complete Stanton Cross is set to deliver:
- 3,200 residential units
- 7,500 new jobs
- A significant number of jobs a year during construction
- 110 hectares of commercial use
- 9 hectares of leisure use and community facilities
- Country park of 58 hectares
- 2 local centres
- 2 primary schools and land for a secondary school
- New station building and 1,000 space car park
- Office development around the station on the east of the train line.
The whole development is expected to take between 10 and 15 years to complete.

The council has been involved and supportive since day one and will continue to work with partners to ensure the successful delivery of Stanton Cross, and the many benefits it will bring our community.”
Steve Hughes, Network Rail Area Director, said: “We are very pleased to play a key part in this exciting development. Once complete Stanton Cross will be home to a new community living next to a world class railway offering easy access to London and the north.”
