An enterprising business on Cambridge Street, Ria’s Rosy Lee Tea Room, has organised a parade of the Northamptonshire Home Guard through the town on 12th April to celebrate their part in protecting the nation during the second world war. The procession will take place a 11am leaving from the museum and travelling along Midland Road, Market Street and finishing at Ria’s Rosy Lee Tea Room on Cambridge Street.
Ria Chambers, who runs the business and has recently joined the Chamber of Commerce, wanted to support our troops in general but also link this to a commemoration of the home guard and provide a memorable event for the town and Cambridge Street in particular.
Ria said ‘I’ve recently opened my tea rooms on Cambridge Street and wanted to do something that would help to celebrate the town’s history and also bring people in to the town to support local businesses and some of the new ones flourishing on Cambridge Street. It seemed that a parade of the Home Guard would tie in very well with the nostalgia that is associated with tea rooms and our national drink!’
‘It would be great if people came out to witness and support this one off re-enactment of the Home Guard parade – we even have a 1940’s jeep which will be following the procession’
