The sights and sounds of medieval Wellingborough were brought back to life during a school assembly.
More than 120 pupils from Park Junior School, in Great Park Street, discovered gruesome facts about life in the 1600s during a lesson from local historian David Smith ahead of the town’s Medieval Festival, which takes place on 27 and 28 July.
Organised by Wellingborough’s Business Improvement District (BID), which is a scheme bringing together retailers to encourage trade, the family event will see entertainment taking place throughout the town centre from jugglers and archery to street theatre and ‘trial by combat’.
Arifa Khanam, 11, said: “The water was dirty and there were no toilets, which was smelly and gross.”
Fellow pupil Dylan Morrish, 11, said: “I couldn’t believe that football was banned in these times and they had to do archery instead.”
