NNH CS Wellingborough Chamber & TCP Consultation Response Click to access full report.

The Chamber of Commerce has made a response to the emerging Core Spatial Strategy and produced a report on development issues facing Wellingborough. North Northamptonshire is reviewing its strategy and is revising how the area will develop over the period to 2031. Previous growth targets have not be achieved and the proposals promote a more realistic approach. However, the Chamber and Wellingborough Town Centre Partnership, which jointly commissioned the report, are concerned that Wellingborough is not positioning itself sufficiently to compete with neighbouring centres and towns over the next 2 decades. The Chamber wishes to see the reversal of job losses which has occurred over the last 10 years in Wellingborough promoting investment and development proposals which can bring forward employment and increase the town’s viability and prosperity.

The report sets out various recommendations in respect of Housing, Employment and Town Centre issues and suggests how local policy could be developed or amended to increase Wellingborough’s attractiveness as an investment location. The Chamber wishes to see the early delivery of development and growth for Wellingborough to make up for lost ground and to enable the Town to compete in the present challenging economic climate.
